Description: This painting depicts the departure of Charles of Bourbon from Spain, seen from the sea. Charles of Bourbon was the third son of Philip V of Spain and his second wife, Elisabeth Farnese. He was born in Madrid on 20 January 1716. In 1734, he was made Duke of Parma and Piacenza. In 1738, he married Maria Amalia of Saxony. They had four children: Isabella, Ferdinand, Maria Luisa, and Maria Teresa. In 1759, Charles became King of Naples and Sicily. He died in Madrid on 14 December 1788.
